Cpl Shane Keating

Painting this portrait of Corporal Shane Keating was, for me a humble but extremely rewarding experience. I must thank his mother, Judy Budd, for making it possible for me to get to know Shane; for sharing her photos, the letters, the stories of this exceptional young man and Shane’s writings in his own hand. Not only do I feel honoured that I was able to paint Shane’s portrait, I feel blessed to have met a wonderful new friend, Judy, who is also an artist.

Judy is my sister, and Shane is my nephew. My love for them and the rest of our family will never end.

Thank you so much Shairl, for your wonderful work. I’ve heard from Judy about you and your amazing group of artists. Thanks to all of you. I love your project.

    Bless you,

    Mike

    Mike,
It’s so wonderful to hear from you. We have found such a great friendship with Judy and were so pleased to also meet your lovely niece, Meghan.
Commemorating the exceptional men and women who sacrificed their lives for what they believed in is our sincere honor and every family we meet touches our heart with immense impact. Their soldiers all have wonderful stories of strength, courage, kindness and caring. We work through this project hoping that we can in some way manage to show Canadians who they really were through this exhibition. We hope to meet you in the future – perhaps at one of the exhibitions when this begins touring Canada in about two years’ time.
    All our very best,
    Shairl, Susan and Cindy
