Project Heroes®: More Than a Soldier
The Character and heart of the Canadian heroes who died in the Afghanistan war are revealed through individual portraits and stories. The stories are brought to life through conversations with the soldiers’ families and by photographs, videos and letters from the soldiers. Large panoramic paintings representing the families, serving soldiers, veterans and the wounded give insight into the many lives touched by war. These elements along with soldiers’ personal photographs of war help preserve the history of the human aspect of the Afghanistan conflict. This exhibition will leave the audience with a greater understanding of the real person behind the uniform and those affected by war. Project Heroes® will tour Canadian cities beginning 2014 to coincide with Canada pulling out of Afghanistan. Learn more about how Project Heroes® began, what makes it so special, how it is funded and how you can help at About the Project page. Check our blog to stay in touch with us.
We are temporarily unable to issue charitable tax receipts for donations but will publish the date as soon as we are able to.
The portraits are painted in the Debney Armoury thanks to the support of the Department of National Defence.
Thank you to all our sponsors including 630 CHED (a member of the Corus radio family) and CTS TV.
The portraits will not be revealed as an entire collection until the first exhibition. Until then we are showing just a sampling of the paintings as a preview which you can see at The Portraits page.
The paintings will be done in the order we locate the families and receive permission. If you have not been contacted please email us at email@example.com to begin the process.
