Portraits of our Canadian soldiers who have fallen in Afghanistan are brought to life from stories and photographs shared by their families. When Canadians experience this collection of portraits, stories, commemorative paintings and multimedia, they will be able to connect in a personal way with each soldier. This intimate side of our military as shown through the eyes of our soldiers and their families will tour Canadian cities in 2012/13.
The portraits will not be revealed as an entire collection until the first exhibition in 2012. Until then we are showing just a sampling of the paintings as a preview.

Project Heroes™
a national exhibition of portraits and memorabilia, is being created by artists Susan Abma, Shairl Honey, and Cindy Revell as a way for Canadians to show their gratitude to the soldiers who died in the Afghanistan war.
What makes these portraits so special is that they are being painted from family photos which contain a great deal of spirit and meaning. We also speak with the families to learn about their soldier’s life which helps us capture the soldier’s personality in the painting. The stories we hear are used for biographies that will accompany each portrait, helping Canadians get to know our fallen heroes.
In addition to the portraits the exhibition will contain biographies of each soldier, commemorative paintings, three 6×9 foot paintings honouring the families, wounded, and veterans, memorabilia from families of the soldiers, multimedia, and more. The exhibit is expected to begin touring Canada in 2012.
To cover the huge expenses of this cross country exhibition which include free prints of the portraits for the families, framing, crating the portraits, shipping, and much more, Project Heroes is raising money through donations making this project a truly Canadian effort. Charitable receipts will be gratefully issued to our donors.
We are in the process of contacting the families of the fallen soldiers to obtain permission to paint the portraits and get photos.
If you have not yet been contacted please call or email us at:
The paintings will be done in the order we receive permission.
